[10] In 1621 the town was besieged with the Bavarians led by Tilly and soon after huge bombardment the city was forced to surrender and the Saxons had to leave. The city was then punished for disobedience by in depth repressive measures. This example recurred once again in 1631 when the burghers permitted the Saxons to enter and conquered the town.
